What is Coffee?

HISTORY OF COFFEE
There is no specific documentation stating the history of coffee, but according to some stories in the book; there were hungry goats with an Ethiopian caretaker, named Kaldi, who were weary of searching for a greener pastures. The goats and the caretaker were eager finding something to eat that could relief their starving stomach. As they were walking, they found this red berries off strange bushes. After eating the red berries, Kaldi noticed that the goats began kicking up their heels and their energy increases.

Out of curiosity on the phenomenal change, Kaldi tried the berries and she felt the same thing. So he went to the nearby monastery of the monk across the hillside and spread his discovery. As a result, evening prayers suddenly became more pleasant and the glories of the heavenly berries.

After the coffee berries were discovered, their usages evolve into the following:
1.       It served as a food. Berries were also mixed with different food.
2.       Berries underwent to the process of fermentation that creates wine.
3.       Because of the energy that the berries gave, it was taken as a medicine.
4.       And today, we are serving the beans of the berries as roasted or brewed as a coffee.

Many studies were conducted as the time goes by. Research indicates that coffee provides protective effects for the following:
1.       Asthma
2.       Colon cancer
3.       Gallstones
4.       Headache
5.       Liver cirrhosis
6.       Diabetes (type II)
7.       Tooth decay
8.       Parkinson’s Disease

The following are the benefits that we can get in drinking coffee:
1.       Coffee increases alertness and can prolong working hours.
2.       It is the best source of anti-oxidant.
3.       It actually promotes the effectiveness of some migraine drugs.
4.       It reduces the risk of liver cirrhosis for those heavy drinkers.
5.       It enhances physical performance and endurance.

If coffee gives a lot of advantages, it also has disadvantages:
1.       It increases blood pressure.
2.       Too much coffee can cause sleeping anxiety of insomnia.
3.       It may worsen heartburn and indigestion.
